3. Puppy Development

0-2 months - Puppy kept with the litter for about 2 months. It gets to know other dogs. Separate the litter by 12 weeks. At 8 weeks, the puppy will know how to behave around other dogs.

2-5 months - Best time to train. Puppy's minds are like sponges. Plenty of supervision. Starts to chew any object. Mouthing (nipping or biting) people a frequent complaint during my research. Lose their baby teeth at about 4 months. Plenty of hard rubber toys and rawhide bones. No soft rubber toys or meat bones. Intestinal blockage or damage. Internal parasites and vaccination. See your vet.

5-8 months - Most difficult time to train. Adolescence. Rebelllious. Trying to be the top dog. Be firm, patient and consistent. Toilet training begins 3 and 5 months. Frequent accidents. Obedience classes.



7 - 12 months. Inquisitiveness and confidence. Firm discipline. By end of first year, reach full height and weight (large breeds take longer). 2 meals a day. Full set of adult teeth. Toilet training between 3 and 5 months. To breed or not.

10 months. Hormones settle down. Be consistent. He will learn to relax.

4-6 weeks are needed to toilet train the average dog. Every dog is unique.

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. Crate, paper and outdoors. Paper or outdoors. Crate, Room, Outdoors and full-time. Breeders, pet shop operators, trainers, shelter personnel to help clients with housetraining.

2. TOILET TRAINING - INDOORS

11. NO TWO PUPPIES ARE ALIKE - Temperament (sound, nervous or dominant), Acute Hearing, Acute Smell, Clean den/nest, eating, sleeping area. Instinct for puppies crated past 12 weeks old. Pack leader. Consistency of family members. Aged parents sabotage training.

11. FEEDING SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY. Premium dog food - well-formed stools. Cheap type - peanut-butter stools. 2 times per day in most breeds except chihuahuas, mini-Maltese, Yorkshires. Feed bowl 15 minutes, take away. Some could not eat. Home-cooked food (people food) fed. Refused to eat dog food. Table begging. Sabotage by grannies. No food after 5 p.m. Last outing before midnight? No supper at 10 p.m.
